THE RAP SONG
Good evening. This is Dead Legends. The daily newsletter that loves baseball as much as announcers love catch phrases.
Let’s dive in.
Today’s story is about the best athletes in the world making the worst music you’ve ever heard.
The ’86 Mets were one of the rowdiest and most-talented teams in baseball history.
With a STACKED lineup led by Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, and Gary Carter, they steamrolled through the regular season and went on to win the World Series.
But despite their success on the diamond, the Mets took a huge L that year when they tried to make their own rap song.
Inspired by the Super Bowl Shuffle, the team made a track called "Get Metsmerized.”

This shit will make your ears bleed.
It was a terrible attempt at what was meant to be the official anthem of the ’86 Mets.
The song was filled with cheesy lyrics and an equally cheesy beat, and it was quickly mocked by fans and the media alike.
It’s still remembered as one of the worst sports songs of all time.
The irony of "Get Metsmerized" is that the awful song seemed to propel the Mets' on-field success.
They recorded the song after their first game of the season, and proceeded to go 13-3 to start the year.

Once they actually put it out to the public, in August, they had their biggest month of the year, and Doc Gooden even released his own track: "Dr. K."
One thing we know for sure is that the '86 Mets were having a damn good time.
And at the end of the day, they were winning ballgames.
108 of them to be exact.

STRANGE NAMES
If you're just joining us, we play this game every day where we try to find the weirdest names throughout baseball history.
Why? Don't ask us, it's just something we like to do.
If you've been rocking with us for awhile now, you know what time it is.
Today's winner is:

Ole Frosty only played two games in the big leagues and got shelled pretty badly.
In six innings, he gave up eight runs, five earned.
Overall, he played 13 seasons of professional baseball, but most of it was in the minors.
After baseball, Frosty went on to pursue a career in the medical field as a doctor.
