The Perfect Punch
Good evening. This is Dead Legends. We’re the kind of guys who plan on spending all weekend watching baseball.
It’s Friday, so we’re going to keep it short and sweet today.
Let’s dive in.
Today’s story is about how Babe Ruth’s anger issues led to a perfect game.
It was June 23, 1917 and apparently the Bambino was in a bad mood that day.
The first hitter of the game was Ray Morgan, and Ruth walked him on four pitches.
The Babe was pissed off about the calls and started barking at umpire Clarence “Brick” Owens.
Owens wasn’t in the mood to deal with any shit from Ruth and threatened to eject him.
Ruth threatened to punch him in the face.
After some words were exchanged, he got tossed, and in return, gave Owens a knuckle sandwich.
Ruth was escorted off the field by police, and Ernie Shore replaced him on the mound.
Shore proceeded to throw an absolute gem.
Ray Morgan was thrown out at second, and shore retired the next 26 hitters in order.
He was originally awarded a Perfect Game, but ultimately would be downgraded to a no-hitter in the ’90s.
Ruth was fined $100 and suspended 10 games for assaulting the umpire.

Strange Names
If you're just joining us, we play this game every day where we try to find the weirdest names throughout baseball history.
Why? Don't ask us, it's just something we like to do.
If you've been rocking with us for awhile now, you know what time it is.
Today's winner is:
Growing up, Butch was one of nine kids.
Over seven seasons he had solid career, but nothing to write home about.
He wore the number 42 for most of his career, and was one of the last players to have that honor before MLB retired it for good in ‘97.
His last game was October 1, 2000 with the Rockies.
